Winter 25 is a citrus aromatic fragrance that launched in December of 2024. Created by Elodie Durande, it conjures the image of a rose in winter - the dazzling, honeyed scent of Rose de Mai touched with the frosty notes of rosemary and eucalyptus. For warmth, there’s clove and balsam fir and for balance the sweet-sharp citrus scents of sweet orange, lemon and bergamot. Winter 25 is composed of 16 natural ingredients and features top notes of tarragon leaf, lemon rind, peppermint and sweet orange rind; middle notes of bergamot rind, clove bud, palmarosa, rosemary, blue gum eucalyptus, Rose de Mai and juniper berry; and base notes of balsam fir, vetiver root, red cedar, jasmine sambac and lavender.
From their website: A rose in December is a startling sight - as though a fragment of summer has appeared, fully formed, in the heart of winter. This image stemmed from a favourite poem, ‘Snow’ by Louis MacNeice. A winter scene that balances a few simple, sensual details: the bubbling fire, the tangerine, the bay window and, of course, the snow and the roses. For Winter 24, we wondered if we could bring this scene to life. As the poem layers images, we layered scents. First the central rose/snow accord. For this we landed on Rose de Mai, a pink bloom picked only in May. The petals are gathered at dawn, before they can be bruised by the sun. The resulting absolute* is incredible - floral, dewy, a touch of wood, honey-sweet and airy. To temper the warmth of the rose we experimented with cool, herbaceous notes - peppermint, eucalyptus, tarragon, rosemary. These have a direct cooling effect on the nose and at once placed our rose in a different landscape. We were still lacking the powdery softness of snow. After much searching we found it in palmarosa, a relative of lemongrass that nonetheless carries distinctively rosy facets and gestures to the light texture of freshest snow. We then brought in sweet orange, lemon and bergamot, their citrus notes balancing the rose with a little sharpness. Sweet orange in particular has that scent that comes when you break into the skin of a tangerine, lingering for hours on your fingertips. For the finishing touch, we wanted to capture the fire and the poem’s celebratory tone. This came with the spiced, wintry scents of clove, juniper and balsam fir. They brought richness to the blend, and heat, like something warm cupped in the palm of your hand."
Winter 25 is an eau de parfum, edp.
FFERN WINTER 25 REVIEWS
Fragrantica: It feels like stepping outside on a snowy day, like a clean, cold hike in the woods.
Fragrantica: This is a great fragrance for people like me who dislike traditional "winter" fragrances dominated by spices and vanilla. This one feels like smelling the fresh outdoors in the winter.
Fragrantica: This is my first FFern fragrance and I am loving it. To me, it is both a cool and warm scent at the same time. The lavender and minty citrus are very cool, and after a few minutes the rose, Vetiver and saffron notes come through. I read that some are getting an overpowering citrus note, but to me it lessons and blends beautifully after dry-down. I appreciate that they provide a tester to make the essential blind buy less risky, but I will be keeping this one.
Fragrantica: Love this release. It's lovely, unique, well-blended. Sits close to the skin, longevity is a bit on the weaker side, but a genuinely "pretty" fragrance. A wonderful winter release, the "icey" feeling is evocative, the peppermint is gorgeous and very seasonable, but I'm looking forward to trying in warm weather too. It's in the same category as Renaissance by Xerjoff for me, citrus and mint with "more". They go in their own directions, but I can see myself considering which in the same wear circumstances.
Fragrantica: This is my first from the brand and I’m definitely impressed so far. Really rather lovely scent - I definitely see what plenty of reviewers say about this cool and citrusy composition feeling more suited to summer. But I see the coolness (iciness) as exactly the point in terms of their brief of evoking a wintry scene. Beautiful rindy citrus opening that gives way to an icy, herbally-inflected pale pink rose and a subtly woody base. This is the scent of cheeks turned rosy in the breeze, on daytime winter walks taken with loved ones, among deserted scenery.
Fragrantica: I really love the scent. Unfortunately, it smells much too similar to the bottle of Winter 24. Like Winter 24, Winter 25 smells heavenly of lemon and Rose de Mai and has almost the same scent profile. It feels like an beautifully iced rose on a crisp cold winter day in the snow, while you can enjoy the winter landscape wrapped up in your cozy warm sweater. Once the icy and citrus notes fade, a wonderful clean and warm scent emerges.
