Description

The fragrances in this sampler are all associated with graveyards or cemeteries that are based on real locations. There is a word for the love of graveyard or cemeteries (Coimetrophilia) and I have always visited them on my travels. Besides the beauty of graves, headstones, masoleums, etc., it is extremely interesting to see how other countries and cultures bury and honor their dead. These fragrances are based on locations in the UK, Illinois and Massachusetts.

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.

  1. Haeckels St. John's Cemetery EDP - A woody aromatic unisex fragrance with top notes of pine needles, Atlas cedar, fir, Sicilian lemon, bergamot and bitter orange; middle notes of lavender, rosemary, geranium, star anise and petitgrain; and base notes of moss and patchouli. This place is a historical part of a town where the present and the past sit side by side. The location is surrounded by large pine trees which have been standing for many years whilst between these larger trees grows a huge number of unusual and unexpected trees which have thrived through cross pollination and careful tending. Every year more and more plants are brought to this area and their seeds are dispersed so that they will either live to grow or lay dormant on the moss-covered wet earth. A mist seems to always lay over this place which suits its subdued beauty, a place of natural importance but also one which shows the relationship between life and death. Picked on 6th August / Rainy Day.
  2. Little & Grim Bachelor's Grove Perfume Oil - Bachelor's Grove Cemetery in Cook County, Illinois, is the subject of many tales of the paranormal, from sightings of ghostly figures to flashing lights and even a disappearing house. The cemetery has sadly been the target of vandalism and was neglected for many years. This homage to this sacred space is an atmospheric fragrance of damp, dark earth, the scent of wet leaves and decaying trees, and moss on cool stone, supported by myrrh and a ghostly white musk. Tumbled headstones peeking from damp overgrowth, fog, and a house that's there one moment and gone the next.
  3. Obscura Hortus Old Burial Hill Perfume Oil - From their website: For me, it’s in my favorite cemetery, Old Burial Hill in Marblehead Massachusetts. I can go on and on about how much I love this place, how I feel electric as soon as I begin to climb the stone steps on the hillside, how each grave seems to speak as I pass by, and how I can sit and stare at their stone skulls, and hour glasses, and wings for hours, but this is about perfume! While standing at the top of Old Burial hill in Autumn, gazing out over the treetops to the boats in Marblehead Harbor, watching the sun reflect on the rippled pond in the trees, or gray clouds moving in for a storm, you begin to experience a scent— grass, hay, and ocean, chilled gray stone, herbs, and something like hot tea. It smells damp, and fresh, alive, ancient—like a familiar September rain that ushers in old October. With notes of vetiver, oakmoss and nettle mingles with the ghosts of damp wood, chamomile, mint, honeysuckle and clove.
  4. Sixteen92 Highgate Cemetery EDP Highgate Cemetery is part of Sixteen92's Legacy Collection. It was originally released with the Memento Mori (Fall 2020) Collection, inspired by iconic cemeteries around the world. The cemetery comprises two sites on either side of Swains Lane in Highgate, north London, and is notable as both a cemetery and as a nature preserve. Originally opened in 1839, there are today approximately 170,000 people buried in around 53,000 graves across both sides of the cemetery. It is a contemplative herbal atmospheric fragrance with notes of Earl Grey tea, lavender sprigs, juniper berry, ivy, gravel, crumbling cobblestones, delicate fallen leaves and soft mittens.
  5. Ghost Ship Scentporium Bachelors Grove 1832 EDP - Down a broken path through a mysterious wood south of Chicago lies one of the world’s most legendary burying grounds: the melancholy and crumbling graveyard called Bachelors Grove. Walking by moonlight beneath a shroud of trees and folklore, the ghosts of the Grove are legion, drawing thousands of lost souls, wanderers and wonderers, and those in search of the mysteries of the Afterlife. Evoke a magical night in this storied place when you open this unique scent laced with notes of earth, hickory, river rock, sage, cedar, forget-me-not and patchouli.
