Shadow People is part of the Ghosts summer fragrance collection with spirits as its unlikely muse for the season. Breezy. Diaphanous. Vaporous. Ethereal. Transparent. Sparkling. Spectral. Lyrical. These are words that are often used to describe summer fragrances. But they’re also go-to adjectives for ghosts. This collection is a collaboration between Heretic and the Kunstmuseum Basel in Switzerland. The museum had an exhibit called “Ghosts” about five different paranormal activities and asked Douglas Little, founder and perfumer of Heretic Parfum, to create fragrances to accompany the exhibit. Each parfum has a spectral musk accord that’s a combination of safe synthetic and naturally occurring musks that create unique sensations.
Accounts of shadow people appear across cultures, sleep research and contemporary folklore. They linger at the edge of perception. Shadow People is constructed from materials chosen for their ability to unsettle without aggression. Dust notes evoke neglect and accumulation, the quiet evidence of time passing unnoticed. Petrichor introduces a mineral dampness, suggestive of change without arrival. Plai, a rare and unfamiliar rhizome, introduces a jarring clarity: cold, smooth and faintly metallic. On the skin, it remains close and indistinct, subtly altering the space around you. It does not frighten, it unsettles.
Shadow People is an unsettling scent of dust, oakmoss, static electricity and the mineral dampness of geosmin. Dusty, cold, peripheral, it is presences perceived at the margins; the feeling of being observed. With notes of moss-covered woods, dusty corridors and ambered musk. Shadow People is an eau de parfum, edp.
Made with no phthalates, parabens, synthetic dyes or formaldehyde. Vegan friendly. Cruelty-free. Handcrafted to surpass all industry standards of “clean” with plant-based ingredients blended in organic, non-GMO sugarcane alcohol.
HERETIC PARFUM SHADOW PEOPLE REVIEWS
Fragrantica: "There’s an old, abandoned asylum that I visit sometimes, beautiful stonework fallen into ruin. One time I was brave enough to actually step down the hallway into one of the buildings, which was cold even though it was summer. This perfume smells EXACTLY like that. I don’t know how but it captures such a sense of space - cold, dark, stone, emptiness, and the edge of a pine forest. It smells vast. Genuinely an extremely creepy scent. One of my all time favourite things I have ever smelled, deeply haunting and slightly menacing, spacious and detached. When I sprayed it for the first time I sniffed it so many times I got dizzy."
Fragrantica: "It makes me smell like an old, filthy rich person in the most predictable, boring way possible. It's very flat on me and there is an intense musk note that is not listed, which unfortunately overtakes the entire fragrance. Don't get me wrong, it smells extremely well made and it's obvious the ingredients are of fantastic quality, just did not meet my expectations nor personal taste. The muskiness was present but not as obnoxious or intense of my partner who tried it at the same time as me, which made the petrichor slightly more noticeable on them. However, Spectral Grace from Heretic was everything I had expected Shadow People to be so if you're looking for a beautiful petrichor scent I would recommend that one instead."
Fragrantica: "Smells like running through a damp castle in a Jean Rollin vampire film. Très évocateur!"
Fragrantica: "My favorite from Heretic’s Ghost discovery set and possibly my favorite from Heretic EVER! Green, sharp and vegetal. It smells like being on a water ride at night while it’s storming or like a paranormal swamp ghost? Definitely unnerving and unexplainable but also sooo sexy. This does lean a bit more masculine but I wear it anyway. I’m obsessed."
