Description

Le Labo Benjoin 19 is exclusive to Moscow, Russia.  Created by Frank Voelkl, it is inspired by the first meeting of Anna Karenina and Count Vronsky.  Notes of amber, musk, olibanum (frankincense ) and cedar.  A rich incense scent that has that unique Le Labo knack of projecting a haunting scent that is far better than when you put your nose right on your wrist.  One of our favorite incense scents and any incense lover must try it.

We are decanting right now (7/12/21) from a bottle from 2014.

Le Labo Benjoin 19 Reviews

Cafleurbon - "Against the skin, nose pressed close, the smoky, musky animalics purr. The aroma is almost unbearably erotic. A couple of inches up, and there is a sweetness, with a bit of wood. This is the scent you want on your scarf on a cold day; inviting, yet still crisp. Even farther away, and there is a cloud of ambery beauty so inviting that there could not possibly be any resistance to every desire."

Perfume Posse - "It is incensy, lovely woody amber base.  There is a little bitter that singes the hairs on my nose when I bring it in close, but like a lot of good art, Le Labo Benjoin 19 is better at a distance. This thing has amazing lilt as you walk.  It is very much like Le Labo Vanille 44. I sometimes lose the plot on it, but as soon as I walk from one room to the next, I smell nothing but this gorgeous fragrant wake following me, enchanting me far more than studying it on my hand, sorting through some of the medicinal bitterness.  Sum of its parts perfume..."

Basenotes - "Benjoin 19 is more amber oriented, with its honey sweet quality, and has a bare smattering of the vanilla-like character of true styrax benzoin. Also contained within is the Boswellia plant (olibanum, aka frankincense) in minute amounts, adding a dry sweetness."

Fragrantica - "benjoin 19 is brilliant. i set it against kyoto incense and it's far more sophisticated and nuanced but unfortunately a lesser performer in terms of duree. benjoin made the kyoto smell cheap by comparison. this is a masterstroke of resins and wood. Voelkl is a wizard. tested in summer this almost convinced me a resinous scent is a year-rounder. this is as close as one could be."

Fragrantica - "Cozy, warm, woody, resinous. Slightly sweet. Smells a bit like a dark cola or a bourbon cocktail. Beautiful."

    Sacred frankincense and amber

This is a spiritual and sensual scent- a soft and rich frankincense (not nag champa) and amber. It smells like Notre Dame Paris. A perfect scent for Moscow! Great for cooler weather.

    Incense at its best

This is pure, divine and sensual. Frankincense and amber...softer than scents like Comme les Garcon's Avigny. I love the smell of incense in Catholic cathedrals - this is a cleaner, softer, sexier version, but it is indeed incense. Wear it on a cold day when you are reading a great book, or meditating, or when you are meeting someone new, or someone old. Just wear it.

    Cold weather perfume

Rich, smoky, and sensuous. Unisex. Only need a drop of this and it lasts a long time. Elegant, refined and classy. Makes me think of Dr Zhivago, the frigid Russian winter, and Lara in her fur coat and hat when she meets Yuri again at the ice house and they spend their last days together. I think she would have been wearing La Labo Benjoin 19 and it would have scented both of them after Lara leaves on the sleigh.
