Troubled Spirits is a floral woody musk fragrance that launched in 2015. Created by Joshua Smith, it is a dark and deep amber scent, perfect for cutting through the cold and dark of night. Liquor soaked spices zested with orange and showered with damask rose petals are chased by wine soaked fruit from a charred oak barrel. Troubled Spirits is an olfactory tribute to all the "good trouble" troubled spirits out there; the ones who stay up an hour too late to enjoy one too many cocktails; the ones who kiss strangers and flirt with friends; the ones who burn a little brighter than others. A scent about finding comfort in wildness. Troubled Spirits in other words: Shared mischief and good trouble, a flask of bourbon hidden under a winter coat, a parting kiss in a coat room, a glass of wine too many, secrets spilled out over an evening all over your best friend’s floor. With notes of U.S. oakwood, orange zest, Moroccan damask rose, Indian vanilla, Indian aged patchouli and amber. Troubled Spirits is an eau de parfum, edp.
Libertine Fragrance is an independent North American perfume house, blending, bottling and labeling perfumes by hand in Canada. All Libertine Fragrances are vegan and cruelty free and are unisex.
Reddit: Probably the most accessible of the set. This is a sweet boozy amber and wood. The opening is whiskey with stewed cinnamon peaches and the base is amber with velvety oak and a chocolatey patchouli note. The velvet texture of the dry down is nicely done, I'm always impressed when a perfumer can convey texture well. 7/10 nice, I'm sure many would love it, but I'm not wowed, although every time I try it it grows on me a little.
Fragrantica: Troubled Spirits smells like the last thing I remember from a cold night out right before blacking out. Drunk spit warmth. Too clean for me though, it could use a cigarette or two but maybe no one offered.
Fragrantica: This is one of a handful of boozy fragrances that I will wear. Absolutely love everything about it. Totally masculine. The oak note is really great. 10/10 for wearability.
Fragrantica: Oak barrel for sure and an initial hint of vanilla that grows over time. Gets sweeter and sweeter to eventually disapear, probably faster than the other Libertine I've tried. Would say it grows from unisex to slightly more masculine. A fun fragrance.
Fragrantica: I don't normally love boozy scents (If anyone remembers the Scottish collection from DS Indurga, their MacCallan fragrance put me off the style for a very long time) but Troubled Spirits really does it for me. While Libertine scents have a lot going on, even the strong ones have a transparence to them, and never get too heave on me. This is in the top 3 for me along with Eros Fig and Sweet Grass.
Fragrantica: Libertine's description is one of the most literal and accurate I've ever read: "Whiskey soaked spices and wine soaked fruit are carried across by charred oak barrel and a deep amber scent. This is a perfect scent for cutting through the winter cold, like a sip of bourbon under your coat." The best of Jazz Club's without the dirty ashtray and urine. Troubled Spirits is a bit woodier. Where JC is smooth cognac, TS is a shot of bourbon from a flask. All that said, it's really lovely.
Fragrantica: Very boozy on me, like Jamaican rum or a smoky whiskey. Lovely for winter.
