MadHat Scents is a great line of fragrances that I found through Basenotes. I originally purchased a couple of Ryan's scents just for myself but fell so in love that I wanted to share them with all of our customers!
Ryan's mission was to create a unique fragrance experience for his customers while creating scents that could not be found anywhere else. MadHat Scents began as a one man personal project to create scents that were not available in both niche and mainstream markets. Initially he had no intention of selling his fragrances - they were created just for himself and a few friends. After realizing the increasing demand for all things different, stemmed from an uprising in artisan perfume houses using high quality ingredients and increase in department store duplicates, he chose to make them available in limited releases. He created 600ml batches of his scents (all extraits created at 30%) and when they were gone, they were gone. His scents would actually sell out in about two months and new fragrances were released shortly after he had run out of a scent. Sometimes he would choose to release similar scents at a later date depending on demand but they all would have a different dimension. Sadly, Ryan has decided to stop making his fragrances for the time being.
Engin is a smooth, resinous, creamy, aldehydic and slightly smoky scent. It uses aldehydes to highlight a large amount of benzoin styrax coupled with star anise, black agar, creamy woods and an interesting oud blend. The full listing of notes is aldehydes, star anise, benzoin styrax, amber, oud, sandalwood, cedarwood, mahogany, frankincense, citrus, black pepper and birch tar.
