Santal Volcanique is a woody spicy musky fragrance that launched in 2018 and was created by Richard Ibanez. The defining adventure: the scent of scorched sandalwood on the slopes of an erupting volcano. A potent and addictive sandalwood brightened by the vibrant notes of a spicy coffee. Glowing spice-clouds, acid ashes, tremors: burning adrenaline. Ascent, 3700 metres. Beyond-black slopes: parched ylang, scorched sandalwood and cedar. Cascading coffee, crackling cardamom, roasting ginger. Roaring softness. Santal Volcanique is an eau de parfum, edp.
Fragrantica: I was expecting a smoke Bomb. But I don’t see how anyone would be disappointed with this. Shit I love a ginger blast opening. But after that I find it kind of barber shop and for some reason cozy. If that makes sense. I just find the vibe relaxing. Nice hot shower after a long day and enjoying the smell. Nothing nuclear or ground breaking. Linear but interesting enough. Wife didn’t chase me out of bed after over spraying and she likes it.
Fragrantica: It's a nice clean Sandalwood fragrance with fresh lime in the opening, but it becomes a Ginger-Sandalwood fragrance that overall is quite nice, good for all Seasons and all occasions in my opinion, it's not as strong as some of Maison Crivelli's more popular fragrances but it's good enough, medium longevity + projection, it's unisex but definitely leans quite masculine for me personally, not much else to say about this fragrance as if isn't that complex (not that that's a bad thing). Final verdict is a 7.3/10 for me.
Fragrantica: I get the imagery, like I do smell what they've described in the blurb about this fragrance, but in a very muted way. Like yes, it does smell like volcanic ash, but there's nothing "bursting", "roasting", or "roaring" about this. Those adverbs suggest a punch, presence, personality above the softness. This is just soft on me. Soft, ashy, sandalwoody, lightly gingery, vaguely clean and masculine. It's okay, but I think this is my first trial of this house, and I definitely expected more.
Fragrantica: Smells like a classic shaving cream in the ABSOLUTE best possible way. I love this scent so much ! Smells clean and classically masculine. There is no other fragrance I know of that delivers this scent at this level.
