Guy Laroche Drakkar Noir is an aromatic fougere fragrance for men that is a clean, kind of fresh dirty scent. It is a masculine masterpiece that was one of the biggest sellers for men in the 1980s. This jconic fragrance is remembered as being a beast - it was a strong scent and oversprayed by too many men in the 1980s. A little went a long way and it gets kind of a bad rap as being a club fragrance worn by men on the prowl. Because of this, there are so many references in modern culture to the fragrance but my favorite one was in Breaking Bad's first season when Hank says that a dealer's car "smells like a Drakkar Noir factory".
The lavender, spices, juniper and fir are the most predominant notes in Drakkar Noir and it is famously recognizable.
It was the winner of the 1985 FiFi Award for Men's Luxe Fragrance of the Year and a winner in 1996 of FiFi's Fragrance Hall of Fame Award.
Drakkar Noir is still available for purchase.
This is the original eau de toilette version of the fragrance.
