Heaven-Sent was launched in 1941 and was Helena Rubinstein’s first scent for the masses. It was an innocent, fresh floral bouquet that was incredibly popular. Apparently the name came about because after trying hundreds of samples until she finally found one that she liked, she said “What a heavenly scent”. She launched the perfume by dropping balloons containing perfume samples from her Fifth Avenue penthouse. This was a very unusual and successful launch and several hundred women filled Fifth Avenue to grab for the balloons.
Heaven-Sent was one of the first products to use a pop song in their advertising campaigns. It featured Donovan's "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" in 1968 and featured the lyrics: "Suddenly, there’s a heavenly fragrance that clings. It’s Heaven Sent. Suddenly, you’re an imp wearing angel’s wings. In Heaven Sent, suddenly, you are all the things you want to be, a little bit naughty but heavenly..in Heaven Sent!”
One of their print ads read:
"The only thing
I haven’t changed my mind about this year
is Heaven Sent.
I’ve changed my mind about higher boots. Shorter shorts. Clingier shirts. Looser hair. But I haven’t changed my mind about my fragrance. That’s part of my permanent identity. Like my name. It’s very personal. Very me. The same, no matter how I look on the outside or feel on the inside. I’ll always be true to Heaven Sent. After all, how can you change your mind about something you love?"
Heaven-Sent is currently distributed by Dana Classic Fragrances who reformulated it in the 1980s and put it back on the market again due to high demand. Their newest reformulated version came out in 2001 and was created by Loc Dong but neither of these hold a candle to the original.
This is the original Helena Rubinstein eau de parfum version of the fragrance.

I had been wanting to smell the original formula of Heaven Sent again for years and years and years. In the past, I had tried the Dana formula; and was very disappointed; it just does not pass for the original Helena Rubenstein formula. I was thrilled when I learned about Surrender to Chance in an email newsletter; and found samples of the original Helena Rubenstein Heaven Sent. I am very, very pleased with ordering Heaven Sent (and some other perfume samples) from Surrender to Chance.
