Ralph Lauren Polo Cologne was created in 1978 by perfumer Carlos Benaim, and it is a classic in men's scents, as well as being a perennial bestseller. This version is the vintage Cosmair version, which was the second version and not the modern formula. Warner was the original version, but the Warner and Cosmair are basically the same. Polo contains no floral notes except chamomile. Notes of artemisia, basil, thyme, cumin, coriander, cloves, conifer woods, patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, leather, tobacco, thyme. Polo is an eau de toilette, edt.
From the brand - "Polo is here for fans of beautiful, eternal things. Its name awakens association with a closed circle of the chosen and this circle has its rules and traditions. As a truly masculine perfume, Polo does not contain floral notes, apart from camomile, which has more grassy than floral scent. The opening of the composition is green and fresh, made of grassy notes of artemisia, basil and thyme, with spicy notes of cumin, coriander and cloves. The heart is strong and masculine as conifer woods, decorated with notes of patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver. The base contains leather, tobacco and thyme, which create a wonderful, intensive trail. Polo is one of the two first perfumes by Ralph Lauren and it was created by Carlos Benaim in 1978."
Fragrantica - "The vintage was a fuller, more rich pine and had kind of a "menthol-y" effect to it. It's a signature scent and unmistakeable - you'd know it in a heartbeat."
Fragrantica - "An absolute masterpiece fragrance. Every time I smell this, I remember why I like it so much. A super mature, masculine classic for the winter. Lasts about 10 hours for me, but should be a range of 8-12 hours. This stuff is powerful too, very strong and very bold. One of the goats of the fragrance industry"
Fragrantica - "I recently purchased and sampled the vintage cosmair version. It's denser, smoother, and overall more refined than the current formulation. Also, the dry-down is heavenly and I can't stop putting my nose to my arm."
Fragrantica - "Polo Green is considered the father of them all in the genre of uber masculine unapologetic scents. The hate it gets is expected. Every legend has haters or they wouldn't ever be legends."
