"Past moments that surge into the present have many scents. I have interpreted that which most evokes the past." - Serge Lutens
An excerpt from a review by The Scented Salamander
A way for the brand founder and art director of laying the stress on a past-oriented composition rather than on a sudden aesthetic curiosity for the rules of grammar... It takes inspiration from the era pre-dating digital photography, when silver photography used to be mainstream. Lutens as a photographer recalls the gestures and processes which surrounded the making of silver photographs.
"Not much time separates this moment from that in the past when, rather than displaying a shot on a mobile screen, a photograph was passed from hand to hand in chemical baths before it was seen."
The scent itself is a warm oriental, which at first sniff, betrays a wealth of resins as well as pyrogenic accents. It is only fitting that it would be so since those accords are some of his most recognizable ones, a tribute to his past and present times.
