SORCELLERIE DON'T WHISTLE IN THE WOODS REVIEWS
Reddit: Dark vanilla, almost sour, with a hint of pine. I get wafts of sugary vanilla.
Reddit: Initial Sniff: This begins as a glimmering sugar, dark and woody vanilla and something warm and soft like kitten fur. It has the typical sorcellerie apothecary alcohol-like opening that swiftly dissipates into a complex, multi-faceted scent. Drying Down: This evokes multiple feelings with the dry down: diamond-like, pristine amber coloured sugar crystals, a warm fluffy black cat curled protectively around their sugar jewel treasures, something comfortingly gourmand like hot pancakes on a cold day blanketed in rich dark vanilla syrup, and the feeling of being at home in a cozy wood cabin. This scent is so inviting and heavenly like the promise of a warm fire, a soft sweet cat curled around your toes, and fluffy syrupy pancakes after struggling through a frigid snowstorm in the night. Many Hours Later: Easy all-day wear with a tasteful amount of projection that doesn't assault a space but creates a radiant bubble of scent. I wasn't expecting to have this scratch any kind of gourmand itch as it wasn't even classified as a gourmand on their site. Surprisingly, this would melt even a gourmand purist's heart with it's warm sugary vanilla photorealistic tones and I would definitely classify this as a gourmand in my books- a gourmand-woodsy atmospheric scent. (Please note: my sample was from a swap and has most likely aged quite a bit! To my nose this is more sweet leaning than woodsy).
Reddit: The description summarizes the scent as ‘dark, sugared woods’ and the description was dead on with my experience. The scent opens with very smooth, almost balmy woods wrapped in a layer of warm sweetness. I think that the main woody notes I’m getting are the sandalwood and for balsam, perhaps with a touch of cedar. Sadly, despite being a favourite note of mine, the cypriol never comes through for me. The sweetness comes mainly from the sugar note, but I get some warm, rich vanilla as well. Over the course of the wear, the scent goes from an even balance of sweetness and woodiness, to the sweetness gaining an advantage. The vanilla grows stronger in the dry-down and pulls the vanillic and balsamic qualities from the woody notes as well, sweetening them up. Later in the wear, the musky ambrette also peeks through, further softening the blend into a sweet, woody musk. This doesn’t smell especially similar to Manor by Solstice Scents, but I think it would be just right for someone who liked Manor but wished that it was sweeter and lighter. It’s a lovely sugared woods scent and definitely one that I am looking forward to trying again down the track.
