Stora Skuggan Mistpouffer was launched in 2019, only recently available in the United States. Tomas Hempel created the perfume trying to capture a Mistpouffer. Mistpouffer is explained as a natural sound with mysterious origins, that sounds like cannon fire off in the distance through dense fog. Machimoodus State Park takes its name from the Native American name for the area - "place of bad noises." Stora Skuggan wanted to bring this sound into smell. Difficult to pin down, it is at times sweet (immortelle and sugar and malt) and foresty and a little foggy. Unique.
Notes of bergamot, immortelle, pine, fig leaf, sugar, malt, cypriol oil (nagarmotha, smoke and vetiver.
"Rendering this mystical water thunder as a fragrance was as elusive as the sound itself. We spent four years and hundreds of iterations before finding the right balance between being distinctive and inexplainable. Foggy but not aquatic, smoky but not heavy. Natural, but in equal parts supernatural." - from the brand.
Storka Skuggan is a Swedish perfume house, using perfumers like Tomas Hempel and Olle Hemmendorff."
Fragrantica - "I keep smelling my hand and wrist... wood and smoke and vanilla. Like I came out of the woods am sitting at a wood table in a cabin - with small flowers in a vase and something vanilla flavored on the table."
Fragrantica - "It has this heavy smokey scent that is central. It reminds me of my childhood summers in the Swedish island of Gotland. The fishing huts, the warm tar which the fishermen used to paint the rowboats with and the late sunset glow. Simultaneously it reminds me of a late evening dancing in vibrant Stockholm, as well as in Tel Aviv. The smokiness provides a sexy, sensual and definite sense. On my skin, the perfume brings out a warm vanilla tone, which grows by time. Usually I am not a fan of vanilla, but in the heavy wooden-smoke I find it appropriate, since it makes it more sweet and feminine."
Fragrantica - "A very interesting aromatic aquatic scent that is so difficult to describe yet is very unique and evocative. The perfume opens with notes of bergamot and immortelle. The heart is a synthetic ozone surrounded by hints of pine and fig leaf. The perfume settles on a bed of aromatic vetiver surrounded by malt and slight cypriol. Unisex slight masculine leaning with moderate to strong projection and good longevity. The eclectic Swedish house Stora Skuggan never does boring and this their fourth release is no exception. A strange, surreal and wonderfully wearable scent."
