The Vidal family of Venice is the owner of Mavive, one of the leading Italian companies in the field of perfumery. The family has 110 years of activity in the field of perfumery. In 2011 the Vidal family expressed their interest in creating a cultural project involving the perfumery tradition of the family and the history of the perfumery art in Venice. The following year The Merchant of Venice was created. It takes its inspiration from the ancient Mude, the maritime trade routes that covered a very large area from Asia to Africa, and on to Europe as far as the Northern Seas. The “Mude” started from Venice and reached many different harbors which were the exchange centers for raw materials and finished products. This allowed Venice to acquire the knowledge and raw materials that otherwise it could not get. Through master craftsmen such as the muschieri (perfumers), venditori de polvere di Cipro (Cyprus powder haberdashers) and the saoneri (soap makers), new techniques of production were invented that made the Venetian perfumes and cosmetics highly sought after products in all the Royal Courts of Europe. In October of 2013, The Merchant of Venice perfume line was launched and the flagship store of the brand opened inside an ancient pharmacy shop (circa 1600) in Campo San Fantin. In 2014 it expanded the existing lines and launched the Museum Collection perfume line and the Murano Art candle. In 2015, Nobil Homo (masculine line), Murano Exclusive (symbol of refinement and elegance), and Murano Art Collection were launched. In July of the same year, The Merchant of Venice became part of the magnificent Salon de Parfum, a space in Harrods that is dedicated to the most refined fragrances throughout the world.
Ottoman Amber is part of Nobil Homo (masculine line) and takes its inspiration from a far-away and dream-like world. It features a top notes of bergamot, geranium and plum; middle notes of sandalwood and patchouli; and base notes of oud accord, vanilla, labdanum and myrrh. Ottoman Amber is part of a masculine line but I think it is perfectly suited for a woman as well. It is an eau de parfum, edp.
