Description

Tom Ford Rose Prick was released in 2020 as part of the Private Blend line of fragrances and is said to have been inspired by Tom Ford's own rose garden. You're expecting a ton of rose, but it has dark patchouli and woods on the open, with a warm vanilla from the tonka unfolding before the rose blooms.  Rose Prick has notes of rose, turmeric, Szechuan pepper, Indonesian patchouli and tonka bean.

Tom Ford Rose Prick is in the chypre floral fragrance group.

Reviews of Tom Ford Rose Prick

from manforhimself - "The initial spicy opening very quickly pops to become a fresh and fortified bouquet of roses. You might think that its development stops there but [thankfully] Rose Prick levels out and dries down to a warm and rounded caramel-like base."

from reallyree - "It isn’t overly rosey, in spite of its name, so don’t write it off if you aren’t a rose lover per se. The pepper comes out the longer you wear it and it has such a sophisticated smoky woodiness, like an incense rose. I really like the combination of floral and spice."

From Fragrantica reviews:

"I have only worn it for two days and got at least 3 compliments."

"The rose is fleshy, full bodied and sillage for the opening was several feet away..."

    Tom Ford Rose Prick

I love a good rose scent, esp. if smells like fresh roses and greenery, which is what I was hoping for from this. Unfortunately, it's not that on me. It's a well-blended and elegant scent--this brand does that well--but on me there is very little rose at all, though I do get some greenery. Mostly, for me, it dries down to a smooth, sweet blend with the tonka, but the rose is so slight on me as to be almost unnoticeable. I was hoping for a big rose scent that still wasn't too feminine for me, but it ends up being a nice but nondescript Tom Ford scent on me--recognizable by brand, and thus pleasant, but not outstanding. (This is also how I felt about Fucking Fantastic and Santal Blush and some other scents by Tom Ford: well done, but utterly uninteresting to me in the end. Others may love it, but this is not, alas, the rose for me.

    Let it grow on you

I interested because of the interplay of Szechuan and rose. Honestly that's not what I got on first application. It's very candy, sugary and smells like something I would have worn in HS (YSL Babydoll). However, after that initial smell evaporates you're left with a much more interesting and beautiful perfume, though not very peppery. It's a very Tom Ford perfume in that even the florals have a certain deepness to them that you don't find in other rose scents. As I moved through my 1 ml sample I have come to really like this perfume. I gave it 4 stars because even though I like it, I don't think I'll repurchase, largely because I dislike that sugary start.

Rose Prick is good, but not my kind of rose

Rose Prick is a well done, dry, peppery, cold sort of rose scent on my skin. It is just not my kind of rose and as it develops, the other elements fade and left me with a musky bland drydown.
