Sadly didn't work for me.
I hear raves about this fragrance but sadly it just didn't work for me. Barely smelt anything when sprayed on myself. Just a slight vague sweetness. Then it was gone in just a few minutes. Sad. :(
Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille is part of the Collection Extraordinaire and was launched by the design house of Van Cleef & Arpels in 2009, Collection Extraordinaire was made up of six fragrances meant to pay homage to nautre. Orchidee Vanille has notes of mandarin orange, litchi, bitter almond, dark chocolate, Bulgarian rose, violet, vanilla pod, cedar, balsamic tonka bean and white musk.
Fragrantica: "It’s not floral in the usual sense, but the vanilla is a warm vanilla orchid, not deep like a vanilla bean, and the sweetness comes from that powdery chocolate."
Fragrantica: "This is the perfectly sweet, warm, smooth addicting vanilla...Sweet, but not sweetooth ache sweet or cloying. It's complex, it shows many aspects of the Vanille itself. Rich, but not heavy just perfectly balanced, creamy and blooming."

I was doing housework when this sample arrived and absently put some on and continued to do my chores. Within minutes I was surrended by a lovely vanilla /chocolate scent. I've tested quite a few vanilla scents and I find OV to be a favorite. Although OV is full and somewhat sweet, it is also a bit more sheer than other vanillas I have tried. I am surprised by how much I like OV because I don't usually like chocolate notes in perfume. My only complaint is that the longevity could be better on me. I've already used up my sample and have put it on my to buy list.

I find this fragrance very pretty and likeable, but it is ultimately too cloyingly sweet for me to wear on a long-term basis. I think I would wear this only in winter. It is very well done, just not to my taste.
This is my go-to summer vanilla scent. I am not crazy about the open, but give it a few minutes and you are in for hours of pleasure. It wafts elegantly, but never too strongly, and can be worn to work (I should add that I spray rather lightly.) I like vanilla orientals in the winter, but as soon as the weather warms up I'm back to this one. There is a lovely musky-cuddly quality to the drydown. A real beauty, well crafted, pretty, and wearable. I greatly dislike both lychee and chocolate notes in perfume, and can honestly say that if they are here they are subtle and well-handled and unlikely to bother haters of those notes.
