Description

Zoologist Civet was created by Shelley Waddington and launched in late 2016. Zoologist is the groundbreaking and innovative perfume maker based in Canada. They use no animal products in their perfume. Civet is a chypre centered around civet, with notes of bergamot, black pepper, spices, tarragon, lemon, orange, carnation, frangipani, heliotrope, hyacinth, lime (linden) blossom, tuberose, ylang-ylang, canadian balsam, civet*, coffee, incense, labdanum, musk*, oakmoss, resins, Russian leather*, vanilla, vetiver and woodsy notes. (*denotes a synthetic note).

Civet is described:  "... As the sun sinks over the dense tropical forest, civets emerge warily from the thickets. Under a carpet of narcotic flower blossoms, a smattering of coffee berries peppers the ground. The moist air is heavy with mossy aromas that penetrate every crevice, but the musky scent of the civets dominates; their marked territory daring one to enter at one’s own risk."

Civet is an extrait de parfum, edp. We also have Civet EDP. I believe that Zoologist is changing over all of their fragrances to extraits but we have the EDP in Civet as we got it right when they released it.

Reviews of Zoologist Civet Extrait

Fragrantica   - "Here I find myself...besotted. Utterly besotted, emerging from a place which I entered with no expectations."

Australian Perfume Junkies - " Floral, feral and in-your-face gorgeous, this is the scent that will end up perfuming crumpled sheets in a bedroom, and staying on the skin of a lover who will spend the day drinking endless demitasse of espresso trying to erase the mental fog of the night before, hoping for a future assignation."

Perfume Posse - "I love the coffee note in there, it’s unexpected and  add whimsy to  that floral middle.  So think of it as a dance – an excited scurry on the dance floor when the music starts, champagne glass in hand.  The music speeds up a little, she puts her now empty champagne glass on an empty table and returns to the floor, the music getting more serious, sometimes faster, sometimes slower, and beads of sweat form above her lip. She laughs as the music stops, changes pacing into a slower, closer dance.  Well, you know how this dance ends, y’all. "

Colognoisseur"If you’re a chypre lover this is not a perfume which I would primarily call it a chypre. It certainly ends there but it is the trio at the heart which give Civet its true voice."

The Scented Hound - "Nancy Spungen of Sid and Nancy fame…a little pretty, a little dirty, a little punk."

Fragrantica - "Welp, I got this fragrance along with a few others to sample to get familiar with the animalic notes. To me, despite this fragrance being named ‘civet’, it’s more of a resiny amber with powdery spicy incense. Don’t get me wrong, the animalic note is there (same with all the other notes listed in the description here) but it’s more a faint piss saturated barnyard from a distance as an undertone to the overall fragrance. This is actually quite a comfy and very nice fragrance! On a personal note, I’m just interested in something a bit dirtier and funkier on the forefront. Get some animalic vibes from this? For sure! What I’d reach for to really go balls deep in an animalic experience? Probably not. Definitely something I’d wear for comfort though!"
