Fresh & Summery
Beautiful clean fresh scent, perfect for summer. I wish the fragrance lasted longer - it seems to fade away pretty quickly.
Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil was created by Jean Claude Ellena and is the subject of the book, The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside the Perfume Industry in Paris and New York by Chandler Burr. It is a fruity floral fragrance with notes of green mango, lotus flower, aromatic rushes, incense and Sycamore wood. Un Jardin Sur le Nil is an eau de toilette, edt.
From allure - "So this fragrance is supposed to evoke a garden along the Nile in Egypt. And though we've never actually been anywhere near the Nile, we can say with 100 percent certainty that this does smell like a garden along some body of fresh water."
From makeupalley - "Oddly enough, while most people seem to find this fruity I would probably describe it as more vegetable than fruit. It's an interesting salty green with refreshing citrus and quiet floral notes, not a touch of sweetness, that is solidly unisex."

Hermès Un Jardin sur le Nil A leisurely stroll along the water and an abundance of fresh citrus provides a welcomed coolness-like a refreshing breeze- on a balmy Summer’s day. A great fragrance for anytime, but I especially love it in the heat. Never cloying or sweet, sur le Nil has long been one of my absolute favorite fragrances. Having walked away from traditional fragrances for several years, I wanted to revisit a sample before purchasing a full bottle. I’m so glad I did! It immediately swept me up in a lolling swell of lightly dry, juicy greenery and mysterious blossomy waterside. The full power of the scent never lasts beyond three to four hours on me, but every once and a while I will catch a whisper of lotus, tart fruit, and wood toward the end of the day. On me, sur le Nil’s sillage is close to the skin, which is nice for me since I wear fragrance to refresh, relax, and let my mind linger on thoughts evoked by the scent. I’m guessing the mysterious quality comes from the frankincense in the base. Or maybe the calamus. Although my nose can pick out certain notes, I try not to get bogged down by feeling like I “should” smell this or that. Rather, I focus more on the way the fragrance smells on me and how it makes me feel when wearing. One of my absolute favorite aspects of fragrance is how they differ based on the wearer. What smells like trash on me may smell delicious on someone else and vice versa.

I love the smell of mango, but this doesn't do much else on me.
I love this fragrance! I'm a big fan of citrus scents, and this could possibly be my #1. My current favorite is another Jean-Claude Ellena creation for Hermes, L'eau de Orange Vert. Le Jardin de Nil is a bit more feminine, and a bit lighter. Recommend for all citrus lovers.
It was wonderful to sample this as I was reading about its creation in the Chandler Burr book. If you love very green, fresh, citric fragrances, you can't help but like this one. Supposedly perfectly captured the scent of green mangoes in the Middle East, so it's a perfect warm weather scent. Light and lasts about 3 to 4 hours. I ended up buying a bottle.
At first, this is a delicious blend of ripe tart apples and pears. Then a tremendous juicy rose creeps in the background. This one is bold, with a little bitter greenness cutting through the sweetness and adding interest.
I've been looking for a fragrance to wear on hot, humid days in the summer when everything else seems "too much" - this fits the bill. The fragrance is fresh, citrus-y and transparent on my skin, with a hint of spice. I find I need to reapply it frequently, but don't mind at all - love the initial pink grapefruit blast I get upon application.
