This sampler features fragrances that bring to mind the smell after it rains. The distinct smells you detect in the air before, during and after a rainfall are a combination of ozone, petrichor and geosmin. Before it rains, a person might say that they can smell the storm coming. Their nostrils might be picking up the scent of ozone which is a naturally present gas in the atmosphere. Ozone, which has been described as sweet and pungent-smelling, is brought down by a storm’s downdrafts from higher altitudes to nose level. Its smell can also be detected following a storm. The pleasant scent that fills the air during a rainfall as raindrops come into contact with the ground is called petrichor. The smell of petrichor has been described in a variety of ways, including earthy, musky and fresh and tends to be stronger after a lengthy period of no rainfall. This is due to the fact that plant oils accumulate over time, which makes petrichor more pronounced after a dry period. The soil-dwelling oils that produce petrichor also compound with the smells of other organisms. Bacteria called actinomycetes, which live in soil, produce spores during this dry time and this spore production includes the chemical geosmin, and when the rain sends the spores up into the air, it releases the smell of geosmin.
You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.
- Death & Floral Someday I’ll Get on that Train EDP - Earth grass underfoot, the morning after a long rainy spring night. Warm morning air and the far off scent of sweet tobacco and forgotten linens swaying in the early breeze.
- fine'ry Before the Rainbow Body Mist - The tranquil feeling of calmness after the rain when the air is fresh yet still warm and misty. The sunrays break through the clouds, filling your soul with a renewing sense of purity. With notes of salty air, bergamot and tree moss.
- Moonlight Cove Finery Forest Rain Perfume Oil - Cool, crisp and pure rain falling from the heavens over a lush woodland. Nothing smells quite like the forest after a rainfall - both invigorating and soothing, with the perfume of all the woods, leaves and forest floor thrown up into the misty air from the pummeling rain. The scent of rain-soaked cedar and pines, damp bark and moss, fallen cones and the sweet mustiness of mushrooms, stone and earth, misty air, the wet green of leaves.
- Perfumer H Rain Wood EDP - Rain Wood is a woody fragrance that launched in 2023 and was created by Lyn Harris. It is a fragrance of effortless beauty, redolent of damp wood after the rain. With top notes of galbanum and elemi fused with clean notes of pepper and myrrh resting on a wet, woody base of juniper and cedar wood with patchouli leaves. With additional notes of water lily, angelica grain and frankincense.
- Solstice Scents After the Rain Perfume Oil – A very earthy fragrance with lilac heart notes and green and petrichor top notes. This perfume celebrates the eruption of blooms that occur after the spring rains. It is a cool-tone purple floral with delicate rain drops clinging to the velvet petals and lush green leaves. The rain accord comes through as the scent of rain left after the storm has passed, rather than the strong eruption of petrichor that explodes as soon as the rain begins to fall. It is a cool, wet, misty impression that hovers around the bold lilac, wisteria and peaceful blue lotus absolute. The wet wild violets are subtle and meld with the bolder floral notes rather than standing our like in our violet focused perfumes. The green elements are carefully restrained and primarily detectable along with the rain top notes upon initial application. It conjures visions of being in the English countryside in a stone cottage covered in wisteria vines. The leaded glass window has been left open to allow the cool rain-tinged air and the scent of florals and greenery to waft in. Bold cool wet earth remains into the dry down, just behind the flowers. With notes of lilac, wisteria, blue lotus, rain, green accord, wild violets and earth.
