Grape Leaf is a scent that is reminiscent of some of the most beautiful places that the perfumer has visited in California, Italy, and France. But mostly it reminds him of the old grape arbor that grew in the yard of the house where he lived as a child. He loved to sit under it on a summer day quietly reading a favorite book curling his toes in the cool moss. It features notes of crushed grape leaves, weathered wood, green moss and cool earth. Under the Arbor is a water perfume.
CB I HATE PERFUME #309 UNDER THE ARBOR REVIEWS
Fragrantica: This review is of the Perfume Absolute concentration of Under the Arbor. There's nothing quite like the smell of Pennsylvania's countryside on a warm summer night. Besides the cow poop smell in some places, the dewy night air emits a smell that I feel is intoxicating. And, just my luck, Under the Arbor replicates that smell to a "T". It smells like dewy grass, the earthy trees, newly-mown hay, and honeysuckle flowers. It's beautiful and is a must for people that know (or don't know) what the countryside smells like on a summer night. Definitely full bottle worthy in my opinion. The longevity for this one is about 5 hours; I'm gonna try the water-based version and see how it fares with me. So far, I really dig Under the Arbor and I highly recommend it.
Fragrantica: The absolute is subtlety personified. I get the smell of fresh light wood mixed with grass and moss. This creates a mood; not quite what I'm looking for in a scent. Sillage is tiny and lasting power is low to moderate (I could only really smell this for a couple of hours before it vanished).
All I Am A Redhead: If I imagine sitting under the arbor (I’m not imagining the grape one which was the starting point for this one), I’d imagine sitting in the shade of a large tree, on a bed of grass, enjoying the warmth of the sun safely away from its rays and smelling the nature around me. Under the Arbor doesn’t transport me there actually. And definitely not into a summer day. It starts for me smelling of bark and grass in the morning, when it doesn’t smell sweet but more earthy. I didn’t realize it until this one came along, that when spring comes, I need scents that are grounding and not too exuberant as spring is exuberant itself, so I need something to temper that and make me feel alive at the same time. And what better way to do that then bring one into contact with nature? Notes: crushed grape leaves, weathered wood, green moss, cool earth. At some point it reminded me a bit of Black March due to the whole earthy vibe but while I can’t wear the earthiness that is Black March, I can wear this one. Because even though it doesn’t transport me into a summer day under the arbor, it does something even better. As the perfume progressed, I got the distinct feeling that the sun was gaining height and the spring air around me started warming and with it the sweetness of air got stronger. It is as if you sat under that arbor in the relative spring coolness of the morning and reclined there in the peace of nature while the sun kept rising and warming your little spring paradise. Honestly, that is one of the better experiences you can smell bottled.
