Each fragrance is a passage: to a scholar’s desk, a tea house at dawn, a lantern-lit reunion, a road that once connected empires, a precious childhood memory...let each scent take you on a journey. Reddit: "It's awesome. Dries down to mostly the golden syrup note. It really does smell like mooncake. I wish the salted egg note was more pronounced tbh. Def springing for FB."
Fragrantica: "Sweet and savory, doesn't fall into the classic gourmand uber sugar smell--this may be one of the most hyper-realistic food smells I've ever tried. Although I don't know if it smells like a mooncake as much as it does an almond pastry topped with flaky salt. There's an almost fermented, sour milk smell in the opening, barely there but gives it a funky, complex quality. Warm and inviting, nice on hair."
Fragrantica: "I wanted to gnawn on my hand the first 30 seconds I sprayed it - I fucking love eggs, especially egg yolk. But then again, who would want to wear salted egg yolk on themselves? Ladies and gentlemen, the enemy is closer than you think. D'annam once again perfectly encapsulated a well-balanced and photorealistic fragrance that is a homage to the traditional delicacy that is mooncake. LOVED it the first minutes as it delivered exactly what it promised. A dense rich cake being accompanied with salty egg yolk that adds richness and some fattiness to the fragrance. Then came the dry down... I've been -as in my skin chemistry- having problems with D'annam perfumes and they're dry-down on me. It morphed into something else that I can't articulate with words because I don't think such a concept exists in a physical body. All I can say is it pivots to a more masculine side instead of staying unisex, which I'm not fond of carrying on myself. But I'm pretty excited for the gourmand lines coming from this brand, each perfume is crafted with utmost care to detail so I'm hoping for a even more sweet gourmand pieces in the future!"
Fragrantica: "Oh! I am surprised by how much I like this! Oh paper it just smells like a buttery caramel popcorn. On skin, however, it blooms so gorgeously. My husband is Chinese, and for the moon festival he orders a more “westernized” and sweeter moon cake. This smells like that, not like the traditional mooncake. He eats a lot of salted eggs yolks. Once the perfume has sat on skin for a few minutes, I go get the salted egg yoke note quite distinctly. This is smells cakey, gooey, savory, sweet, and salty. Just so much fun! It’s not a DNA I typically wear, but I’m so pleased that this exists and that I got a sample of it in the discovery kit. A truly unique gourmand."
Fragrantica: "Mooncake by d'Annam is simply a honey, slightly nutty gourmand fragrance done extremely well. I'm not normally one to enjoy honey fragrances, I actually stay away from the note quite a lot. But when trying this along with the rest of the new line in store - this came off as a really airy honey actually smelling like a super fluffy cake that when cut open has a honey aroma that comes flying out. I was really pleasantly surprised with this release and it was the only one of the new line that I purchased on the spot. Would highly recommend if you want a honey-headed gourmand that doesn't feel like too much or is too sickly."
Fragrantica: "Warm sweet bready honeyed vanilla, with a savory nutty undertone. It reminds me a lot of navitus the embrace, which has a sesame hazelnut vibe that is also present in this. This is much more blended and understated though, which I much prefer! Not a full bottle worthy for me but it’s an easy 7/10 and if you love unique gourmands could be more like a 9/10."
Fragrantica: "Really honeyed bread-y type of smell, after letting it on my skin I keep sniffing my arm, its quite good and addicting but I also really love that honey quality, something savory to it as well, I don't get the egg yolk either, its slightly powdery and I would not say its ultra gourmand, I don't know If I would buy a full bottle personally but I'll enjoy my sample."
Fragrantica: "A very sweet and honey-dominated scent, that really slightly resembles the moon cake dough. I don't get the salted egg yolk, nor do I get mung bean filling, it really is more the dough that wraps the filling and which is really dominated by honey and syrup. The first whiffs do really make me feel like unwrapping a moon cake, but as I said the other notes are lacking. I wish it would have a bit more complexity, but other than that it's well done and the longevity is surprisingly good for a d'Annam scent. It already lasts for 10 hours on my skin."
Fragrantica: "Ever smelt a newborn baby’s head? Well this is exactly what that smells like. It’s sweet, a little toasty, and just comforting overall. Another beautiful fragrance from this house."
Fragrantica: "Sweet in one of the best ways possible. I’ve never been one for just overly sweet, it was airy honey-ed sweet not over cloying and obnoxious, warm and understated calm and warm. Like a fireplace during a snow storm. Absolutely obsessed with it during cold as balls South NJ winger."
