Description

Dirt, or soil, is a thin covering over the Earth's surface. Soil is a mix of eroded rock, mineral nutrients, rotting organic matter, water, air and lots and lots of small living organisms. The top layer of soil called the Surface Litter Layer and the next layer down, the Topsoil Layer or Humus, are full of that great earthy scent. This is a very popular note in fragrances today.

Christopher Brosius of CB I Hate Perfume says: “Dirt is still a note I use in a lot of my work. I've always thought dirt resonates so strongly with everyone because at some point in everyone’s childhood everyone has played in the dirt.” Of course, Brosius points out, the dirt you grew up in might be very different from the dirt that I played in, so olfactory recollection varies enormously, which is why CB I Hate Perfumes makes close to half a dozen fragrances with strong dirt notes. “The smell itself is so archetypal,” he says. “So it's always recognized and loved.”

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.

  1. Alkemia The Scented Verses: Terrae (Dirt) Layering Note - Terrae is a "fresh tilled from the garden type of earthy dirt" layering note that adds an outdoorsy vibe to any scent profile. It brings out naturalistic elements of grass/green/herbal perfumes and uniquely showcases single florals like honeysuckle or lily. It takes down the saccharine qualities of overly sweet and floral scents and makes anything with cacao or patchouli richer and deeper. Terrae loves fern and mossy perfumes and will make them smell more authentic to nature. It can be worn as an unconventional stand-alone perfume. Wears well for all genders but is especially suited to male skin chemistry. Great when layered under green fragrances, florals, dry musks, spices, cacao, chypres, patchouli and incenses. Layering notes let you shift and alter your scents to match your mood or the seasons, to take advantage of subtle skin chemistry changes, or to dabble with the olfactory arts of niche perfumery. Layering notes are also an easy way to customize your favorite scents and make them uniquely and unforgettably yours. The simplicity and uncomplicated linear qualities of single notes are distinctive in and of themselves for stand alone wear as well.
  2. Lou Lou's Soaps, Scrubs & Scents Dirt and Grass Perfume Oil - The scent of fresh cut grass blended with freshly turned dirt.
  3. Wild HybridAU Kokytos Perfume Oil From Rivers of the Underworld Collection - With notes of water, davana, citrus peel, amber, black agar, nag champa and dirt.
  4. Ripe Shop Rust Cologne - The scent of warm citrus orange, a spicy clove bud and the scent of fresh dirt.
  5. Little & Grim Dirt Nap Perfume Oil - Many of us have a childhood memory of sinking our hands into the sun-warmed earth and feeling a sense of safety there. It is easy to imagine this dirt as the warmest, heaviest blanket, one that you wouldn't mind being wrapped in while you slept. Add sweetness in the form of sugar and a light milk chocolate, and you've got Dirt Nap. Six feet of earth makes equals of us all. A warm blanket of soft earth, and a sweet cup of chocolate to toast the departed. With notes of warm dry dirt, sugar and milk chocolate.
  6. Eldritch Whispers Six Feet Under Perfume Oil - This smells like wet soil. It smells like you have found a worm in a garden after a rainstorm. Like you are the worm in a garden because this is YOUR garden. It is an earthy blend of dirt, petrichor and wild mushroom.
  7. Lovesick Witchery Zombie Perfume Oil - Zombie is the scent of clawing its way up from an unmarked forest grave, freshly dug dirt and cedarwood mingle with pine needles, oakmoss, and vanilla tobacco. With notes of dirt, cedarwood, pine needle, oakmoss, vanilla and tobacco.
  8. Lovesick Witchery Strange Creature Perfume Oil Be a strange creature. Juicy orange and dark chocolate swirl through the forest air, layered over the smell of freshly dug dirt and sticky myrrh. It is a mysterious, sweet and intoxicating scent with notes of chocolate orange, wispy smoke, cedarwood, pine, dirt and warm sticky myrrh.
  9. Lovesick Witchery Violet Ashes Perfume Oil A vintage powdery violet and herbaceous lavender, buried underneath the soft ashen soil. Whispers of sweet clementine curled in wispy smoke. A floral, earthy and smoky fragrance with notes of clementine, powdery violet, lavender, wispy smoke, fireplace ashes and soft dirt.
  10. Andromeda’s Curse Temperance Young ferns covered in morning dew stretching their tendrils under the early sunlight. With notes of morning dew, green grass, overgrown lavender, slightly muddy dirt and tomato leaves.
