Frapin is a French perfume company, and also a cognac company. The shared history and artistry and methods of creating both cognac and perfume led the Frapins to bring the two together. Beatrice Cointreau, the daughter of Genevieve Frapin and Max Cointreau, launched the perfume company in 2002 with the perfume called Frapin 1270, named in honor of the year the family business was established.
With the same passion they brought to making cognac, the Frapin family brought it to making perfumes - wanting to create them with traditional French perfume methods and the best materials possible. Frapin is located in the Champagne region of France, around Segonzac, in the Fontpinot Castle. They came to the region in 1270, making wine first, and then became distillers.
Frapin, in line with their passion for excellence, has used some amazing perfumers to create the fragrances for their brand – Bertrand Duchaufour, Jeanne-Marie Faugier and Marc-Antoine Cortichiatto.
Frapin 1270 was the first fragrance to launch for the line, inspired by the family business, surrounded by the aromas creating cognac. Notes of woods, spice, raisin, vine flowers, pepper, candied orange, nut, hazelnut, prune, cocoa, coffee, leather, white honey and vanilla make up the fragrance. Rich and honeyed, this is not feminine at all, it is warmed and elegant.
Frapin Passion Boisee is a citrus over leather and woods, with notes of tangerine, nutmeg, rum, oakmoss, clove, leather, patchouli and cedar.
Frapin L’humaniste was introduced in 2011, inspired by a great gin and tonic – bracing and warming. It has notes of citrus, bergamot, cardamom, bayberry, pepper, juniper, nutmeg, thyme, peony, gin, oakmoss and tonka. A classy, elegant scent, you can almost feel the wood-paneled bar around you.
Frapin 1697 was created by Bertrand Duchaufour with notes of cabreuva, dark rum, acacia, Davana, pepper, jasmine, hawthorn, ylang, cloves, cinnamon, sweet dried fruits, rose, ambergris, myrrh, tonka, patchouli and cedar. Whew!! That is a healthy list of notes. Wine, rum cask, spices.
Up next for Frapin in 2012 is a perfume called Speakeasy. Given what they’ve done, we can’t wait!
