Description

Dirt, or soil, is a thin covering over the Earth's surface. Soil is a mix of eroded rock, mineral nutrients, rotting organic matter, water, air and lots and lots of small living organisms. The top layer of soil called the Surface Litter Layer and the next layer down, the Topsoil Layer or Humus, are full of that great earthy scent. This is a very popular note in fragrances today.

Christopher Brosius of CB I Hate Perfume says: “Dirt is still a note I use in a lot of my work. I've always thought dirt resonates so strongly with everyone because at some point in everyone’s childhood everyone has played in the dirt.” Of course, Brosius points out, the dirt you grew up in might be very different from the dirt that I played in, so olfactory recollection varies enormously, which is why CB I Hate Perfumes makes close to half a dozen fragrances with strong dirt notes. “The smell itself is so archetypal,” he says. “So it's always recognized and loved.”

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.

  1. Lou Lou's Soaps, Scrubs & Scents Dirt and Grass Perfume Oil - The scent of freshly cut grass blended with freshly turned dirt.
  2. Ripe Shop Rust Cologne - With notes of warm citrus orange, spicy clove bud and the scent of fresh dirt.
  3. Little & Grim Dirt Nap Perfume Oil - Many of us have a childhood memory of sinking our hands into the sun-warmed earth and feeling a sense of safety there. It is easy to imagine this dirt as the warmest, heaviest blanket, one that you wouldn't mind being wrapped in while you slept. Add sweetness in the form of sugar and a light milk chocolate, and you've got Dirt Nap. A warm blanket of soft earth and a sweet cup of chocolate to toast the departed. With notes of warm dry dirt, sugar and milk chocolate.
  4. Eldritch Whispers Six Feet Under Perfume Oil - This smells like wet soil. It smells like you have found a worm in a garden after a rainstorm. Like you are the worm in a garden because this is YOUR garden. It is an earthy blend of dirt, petrichor and wild mushroom.
  5. Lovesick Witchery Strange Creature Perfume Oil Be a strange creature. Juicy orange and dark chocolate swirl through the forest air, layered over the smell of freshly dug dirt and sticky myrrh. Sweet, mysterious and intoxicating, it features notes of chocolate orange, wispy smoke, cedarwood, pine, dirt and myrrh.
  6. Lovesick Witchery Violet Ashes Perfume Oil - A vintage powdery violet and herbaceous lavender, buried underneath the soft ashen soil. Whispers of sweet clementine curled in wispy smoke. An earthy, smoky floral with notes of clementine, powdery violet, lavender, wispy smoke, fireplace ashes and soft dirt.
  7. Andromeda’s Curse Temperance Young ferns covered in morning dew stretching their tendrils under the early sunlight. With notes of morning dew, green grass, overgrown lavender, slightly muddy dirt and tomato leaves.
  8. Firebird Perfumes Cabin Perfume Oil From their website: When my sister and I were about 11 we went to a summer camp called "Wilderness Challenge Camp" for a few years in a row. The second year the teenage counselors were too busy sneaking off into the woods to smoke cigarettes and make out with each other to build camp fires, set up our tents, or feed us. We all got poison ivy and went home early. But the first year was pretty epic. We stayed in cabins and basically ran wild in the woods, minimally supervised and having the time of our lives. When my sister got married last year, she rented out a cabin camp in a Virginia national forest that was so similar to our camp, we were convinced it was the same place (until my mom suddenly remembered where the other place was.) The wedding took place around the bonfire pit, the guests stayed in the little log cabins with the squeaky twin beds and all the spiders, and everyone got to run wild in the woods again like 11 year olds (well, with more alcohol and even less supervision, but you get the point.) She asked me to make some camp-themed soaps for favors and a perfume for her, and this is the scent we came up with. Heavy on the woods- Virginia cedar and fir needle- with a base of mossy earth and a hefty dose of campfire smoke. This is dirt under your nails, pine needles under your feet, smoke in your hair, fire in your eyes, and that lifting feeling in your heart when you step into the woods and their silent magic begins to soak into your skin.
