In 2017, synthetic biologists extracted samples of extinct flowers from the Harvard Herbarium. Through DNA sequencing, scientists identified genes that might encode fragrance-producing enzymes. They printed these codes and inserted them into yeast, which were cultured through a fermentation process to produce scent molecules. These molecules were given to world-renowned perfumers to formulate the fragrances found in Future Society's Scent Surrection Collection.
Grassland Opera features crisp, refreshing clary sage, fig leaves and energizing ginger that compose a green overture, softened by a floral bouquet and anchored by natural woods and earthy patchouli. We combined the intelligence of DNA sequencing and the imagination of the world's best perfumers to give new life to the extinct Orbexilum stipulatum, a flowering plant that once flourished on Rock Island in the Falls of the Ohio. It was last recorded in 1812 on the North American Plains and went extinct by buffalo migration. The scent was surrected 10.31.2017. It is an aromatic amber fragrance created by Olivia Jan featuring top notes of bergamot, clary sage, ginger and fig leaves; middle notes of ylang-ylang, jasmine and mimosa; and base notes of sandalwood, patchouli, guaiacwood, akigalawood and Ambrofix. Grassland Opera is an eau de parfum, edp.
Future Society: On me I get a sweet citrus and floral (grassy?) scent for about the first hour and then it morphs into more of a warm but light woody scent throughout the day. It has something in common with Bal D'afrique by Byredo, but not as fruity in the initial spray. I think this fragrance is more unique and interesting though, and definitely lasts WAY longer.
Fragrantica: This is so wonderful and perfectly balanced. Above It looks like “wood” is the most dominant note. I’m not getting that at all. I don’t like wood whatsoever, and I love this. So if you hate wood don’t be put off by the notes above. This Is a clean, dry, slightly sweet scent that gives off the most lovely and mellow cloud. I’m shocked at how nice all the scents are from this company. Super unique, modern and unusual scents without being annoying or overkill like a lot of the newer more modern fragrances are.
Fragrantica: A lovely, grassy, green scent with the tanginess of fig sap hovering around all the long prairie grasses. More of a dry green scent than a lush one, but the white flowers that are present, although more minimally represented than you might expect, bring some added softness and sweetness. This one is really unique and different. Not much amber and the wood stays in the background til the dry down.
Fragrantica: Fresh and milky grasses slightly veering towards green fields, florals are gently laid next to the woods, different and daring.
Parfumo: Very nice. Reminds me of a warm summer day in a flower meadow. Starts fresh and green and matures into floral with a woody base.
