Les Jardins d'Armide was the symbol of beauty, full of lush fragrant flowers and the rarest of species. The beautiful gardens were long mythical. Armida was a sorceress of great beauty and seduction who, after falling in love with the knight Rinaldo, created an enchanted garden where she kept him as a lovesick prisoner. This fragrance was first offered to Oriza Legrand's customers in 1909 at their boutique on Place de la Madeleine in Paris.
Rose, the queen of flowers, is at the heart of this enchanting bouquet picked in the Garden of Armida. Iris from Florence and wild violets join with wisteria and carnation while honey, almond and musk bring this tempting elixir incomparable strength. With top notes of rose, orange blossom and iris powder; middle notes of Florentine iris, wild violet, wisteria and marigold; and base notes of honey, almond, tonka bean and musk. Jardins d'Armide is an eau de parfum, edp.
Oriza Legrand Jardins d'Armide Reviews
Fragrantica: No one smells like this anymore. Not because it's dated, but because it doesn't suit sweatpants, sneakers and baseball caps. Jardins d'Armide is deeply poetic, warm and powdery, carnal and elegant. Classic but far from banal. Complex yet cohesive, not a false note here. The woman of Jardins chooses poetry readings or going to the opera over clubbing on a Friday night, glowing in her silk gown and gold, exuding charm and grace wherever she goes. In a tiny bottle, Oriza managed to capture the heritage of the centuries, the wisdom, beauty and timelessness of femininity in full bloom. Truly exceptional.
Fragrantica: Whilst I'm not a huge fan of lipstick / makeup bag scents, I have to say this is one of the best I've come across. There are a lot of purple flowers in here, the wisteria and violets give it a real floral, feminine, springy vibe which I love, and the almonds and honey sweeten it up - another aspect that I enjoy as opposed to many of the waxy, dry, orris and powder dominated sisters of this genre.
Fragrantica: Oh how I love this! I find this to be utterly pretty, ethereal, sparkly and powdery! Notes of violet, roses, iris and frankincense blended so well. I cannot help but link it to fairy dust, incense and confectionary. I love it and on my skin its sweet and sparkly. It reminds me of my childhood, Pink Musk Mastic Lollies..and incense.
LuckyScent: A gorgeous gourmand perfume. Honey almond nougat, with violet pastilles, and meringues with jam sitting on a bed of rose petals. Delicious, and yet not too sweet, just lovely.
Perfume Posse (Portia): Violets and iris are my first impression, rich and thick with a sprinkling of sugar. If you remember the way PEZ used to smell? Kind of like that. They are soon joined by marigolds, or a marigold fantasy, and oodles of light, fluffy powder. Reminiscent of the powder we used to get doused in after our bath as kids. I loved it, suddenly I was soft and fragrant and beautiful. It is the heart where I start to notice a dark red rose too, very Mr Lincoln (a rose my Mum had in the garden). You know, I never noticed the almonds or the honey but now that I’ve read them in the notes list I can see that they are included. They don’t play a prominent part in my experience though. The sweet, resinous nuttiness I smell is how tonka smells for me and add in clean musks and still more powdery goodness and dry down is complete. Extremely long lasting but the projection is low after a couple of hours. Skewing traditional feminine but wears great on me and I think it could suit anyone really. A bit too interesting and unusual for a thoughtless spritz and go, I often am overwhelmed by how beautiful Jardins d’Armide is. It can happily derail my line of thought anytime.
