Ormonde Jayne Champaca was launched in 2002, created by the line's owner and founder, Linda Pilkington. Its inspiration was the champaca flower, a creamy floral. Ormonde Jayne is a creamy, joyous white floral that adds neroli, bamboo, rice and green tea to the champaca to make an unusual and beautiful scent.
From Bois de Jasmin - "In Champaca, while hardly neutral, the creamy nuttiness of rice foils the flowers, restraining the heady richness of the heart accord. This graceful Asia inspired arrangement rests on a woody-musky base touched by a hint of incense. As if presented in a series of vignettes, Champaca refreshes like a sip of iced drink, veils in a savory breath of rice and then suddenly transforms into a burning joss stock. Although I would not call it a light fragrance, there is nothing convoluted and challenging about this joyful and radiant composition. Indeed, it is impossible to be in a somber mood when wearing Champaca."
From EauMG - " The heart is a warm floral that creates an atmosphere. I feel I can smell the flowers, the bark, the leaves and feel the direct sunshine on my skin. I get basmati, a note I wish I sniffed more in ‘fumes. The basmati note adds this warmth, a really hot “humidity” to the spicy florals. Champaca’s crisp green tea note appears. This adds a “grassiness” without being too grassy. It reminds me of a watered down green tea latte. The dry-down is soft and warm."
From Basenotes - "This one suspends the creamy loveliness of the champak blossom on the comforting notes of the lightest of green teas, bamboo and dry basmati rice – a precious flower resting on gossamer layers. One drifts in and out of its spell, with the scent fading into the background and then coming up again in swells during the day. The lightness of touch made me think of it primarily as a warm weather perfume, but it shows its worth equally well in the enclosed spaces of winter."
