Description

Amaterasu if an atmospheric, spicy, woody scent with notes of golden sandalwood incense, rice milk, cardamom, amber, dry wheat and sunflowers. It feels like being bathed in golden early autumn sunlight. Amaterasu is the Shinto goddess of the sun and the universe and mythical ancestress of the Imperial House of Japan. She illuminates all things and oversees the movement of day into night. Just as the rising and setting of the sun give order to the day, she rules the heavens and gives order to the universe. In one of her most celebrated myths, Amaterasu abandoned the world to hide in the Cave of Heaven. While she hid, the world was filled with turmoil, and the gods agreed that they had to find a way to lure her back, so they conferred and created music and dance to tempt her out -- thereby returning light to the world. An opening of bright cardamom gives way to a delightful blend of golden sandalwood and creamy rice milk. Rich amber and the nutty, grassy scent of dried wheat create a soft base, while a sunflower accord uplifts with its lightly floral, citrusy, herbal, and hay-like notes. Spicy, warm, and dry, Amaterasu is reminiscent of late summer melding into early autumn. It is a water perfume.

POESIE AMATERASU REVIEWS (Based on reviews of the oil version)

Parfumo: Truly my favorite indie perfume. It’s so special and feels alive. Sweet afternoon end of summer sunshine.

Reddit: First whiff there's the familiar vanilla and rice note again which lends a gentleness to these scents and makes them lean a little feminine. The sandalwood is the main event for me here- I absolutely adore this sandalwood! Light and warm. The aura is golden in color and the scent as a whole feels like the end of summer on a dry, sunny and breezy day. There's something experiential about this one, the all-enveloping clear golden warmth it evokes feels like the way I remember summer feeling in childhood. But not the active part of the day, more like the strange period of time after lunch and before dinner when the day seems to be stretching into a timeless pool of honey-hued, warm, late-afternoon sun and only the breeze through the leaves and tall grass can be heard. If bathing in that kind of light quality was captured in a bottle. For me 1000/10! I don't mind the sillage being intimate because the memory feels intimate, but wish the longevity was a little better (It's not bad on this one 3-4 hours on me)...BUT I WANT TO BE DROWNING IN THIS SCENT ALL DAY! 100% Full sizing to infinity and beyond. This one is a lifelong scent for me.

Reddit: The cardamom (oh glory be, more Poesie cardamom! can you sense a theme to my Black Friday order?) combines with the sandalwood, amber, and grains (wheat and rice both) to create a scent that is hot, dry, and golden, like the sun beating down on a languid summer day. The incense gives it an almost fizzy, sparkling twist that I love. I'm not sure I can smell sunflowers specifically, but just knowing that's part of the description gives this perfume that extra perfection: it's hot sun on a field of sunflowers. This is the scent of August, vibrant and sunny, captured in a bottle. It was out of stock when I placed my order, but I crossed my fingers and asked if I could get this as my free sample if possible. This and Comfort are the standout perfumes from my order; I love them both so much and would full-size them in a heartbeat if either of them were available!

Reddit: I’m gonna be honest, I was super nervous for this one. I love the sound of the notes, but in practice, a lot of perfumes I’ve tried that sound similar have ended up quite sour and weird for me. Luckily, this was not one of them! I enjoy this so much. I’m getting a lot of the rice milk and wheat, with a hint of sandalwood and cardamom. I’m not really sure what sandalwood incense is supposed to smell like, but I’m usually not a big fan of incense notes, and this one doesn’t bother me. It smells a bit like sesame? Warm and dry and nutty, just slightly sweet— it’s really lovely. I want to bathe in this and just smell like it all the time. This smells like sunshine. Not like a vacation, or a blast of citrus, but like a patch of sunlight on the floor where a cat would curl up in. Very cozy. It’s quite light, however, and the projection and lasting power aren’t great— but I have a feeling it’ll do well as a personal comfort scent for me. It’s very inoffensive, so I could see myself enjoying this even on days when I’m quite overstimulated and a lot of perfumes would make me nauseous. 5/5
