Description

Enchanted Forest is an atmospheric, herbal and woody fragrance with notes of ancient hinoki trees shading moss covered stones, playful forest spirits, bone musk and a hint of gunpowder. It feels like a reverent walk through an old growth forest in Japan. On a small island off the coast of Japan rises a mountain peak blanketed by a primeval forest. Under the towering trees, standing on a carpet of emerald green moss and stones worn by the rain and wind — you could be in the present day or in the sixteenth century. This hauntingly beautiful place is home to thousand-year-old cedars that lend the forest an otherworldly air. Sustainably-grown Japanese Hinoki essential oil lends Enchanted Forest its soul soothing properties, while the spicy bite of gunpowder highlights hinoki wood’s natural citrus and herbal top notes and spicy drydown. Deep green moss blankets mineralic stone. Enchanted Forest is a water perfume.

POESIE ENCHANTED FOREST REVIEWS (Based on reviews of the oil version)

Reddit: This doesn't smell like a fresh forest, but it does smell like I imagine the forest in Princess Mononoke does. Old and a bit musty, which could be from the bone musk and gunpowder. The gunpowder gives it a slightly metallic edge, which I like, but this scent as a whole does lean a little sweet on me. I’m also getting citrus in the opening even though it isn’t directly listed. The more I smell this, the more I'm intrigued by it. It lasts all day on me, and I’m considering full-sizing it. (4/5)

Reddit: Wet on my skin: moss and hinoki trees - big and bright, sun-dappled forest. Drydown: hello, gunpowder! This has morphed into something much more intriguing - like following a trail of gunpowder through an ancient forest. There is an unexpected and bright note in here while maintaining an atmosphere of being dark and moody - perhaps the brightness is the playful forest spirits? It's almost citrus-y and a little powdery - but the moss and gunpowder keep this from being airy or neon, it's the bright rays of sunlight that barely penetrate the thick foliage of a melancholic forest which would otherwise be a little ominous. After 30 minutes: the citrus brightness has faded away into more of a whisper of incense, sort of smoky from the gunpowder and bone musk. The hinoki trees are tall and majestic, but still manage to play second fiddle to the stunning, moss-draped rocks that line the entire forest floor. Fades out to a mysterious forest of hinoki tinged with gunpowder; it has a light-medium throw and lasts on my skin for 7 hours. My rating: Spring; the color of sage green lichen behind gunpowder smoke; the theme of Princess Mononoke - the human world betraying and poisoning nature when they had once been living in harmony; the energy of Ghibli producers sending Miramax a katana with a note reading "No cuts"; 4.5/5 - finally, something with some edge - a stunning forest with gunpowder is apparently something I never knew I needed! I am a huge fan of Princess Mononoke and this does manage to portray the mood of the film - serious and dark and important, but magical with a small spark of hope. An absolute triumph, a neutral unisex scent and definitely worth a try if you are a fan of any of the listed notes.

Reddit: 5/5 WOW. This was the biggest surprise- Wet, the gunpowder was very strong, and I didn't think I'd like it. But then it bloomed and the smell of trees really came through. I'm from the West coast and the scent reminded me of hiking through the forest on a wet day. After a few hours, it fades into something almost sweet? Like sweetened sap and trees. Probably my unexpected favourite of this collection.
