OYSTER! is an aquatic, citrus, clean and herbal fragrance. It feels like flirting with the ocean. Featuring an intoxicating salty-sweet musk decorated in twists of bitter green cucumber and bright lemon, this scent sits close to the skin and compels you closer. It teases, disappearing, and then just when you think it’s gone, you smell something amazing. You wonder what it is, until you realize, it’s you. The realistic brine of ocean water and the animal warmth of grey musk, also known as ambergris, may sweep you away in a seductive wave, but don’t fear the riptide. The bright tang of lemon and the bitter herbal combination of cucumber skin and angelica will revive you, and leave you wanting more. With notes of grey musk, ocean brine, bitter cucumber, a twist of lemon, elemi resin and angelica. OYSTER! is a water perfume.
POESIE OYSTER! REVIEWS (Based on reviews of the oil version)
Reddit: This is one you either love or hate, as far as I know. I’ve heard it’s pretty accurate to a fresh oyster right from the sea, so add eating one of those to my bucket list because that sounds delicious. I grew up taking summer trips to my grandparent’s cottage in Muskoka and would always go down to the rocky lake shoreline when I was upset. I’m lucky to have moved to a city where I can stand on the shore of a lake that smells exactly the same. Although it’s not the ocean, it instilled a desire to find a realistic aquatic perfume. Unfortunately, OYSTER! Is not the one for me. I got this one a year ago. At that time, I tried it on paper and remember really liking it. My notes say that it smells salty, bitter, lemony and wet. You get a subtle cold wind and ocean waves. I wrote ‘elemi’ down in my notes as part of the opening, but I think I just decided that whatever I couldn’t identify must have been elemi. 5 minutes in, it turns beautiful. An animalic note rises up. It smells like a dirty ocean! The wind and citrus dies down and salt spray takes its place. My notes are a little vague, but I think the gist is that OYSTER! would be my dream dirty aquatic if not for the elemi. It’s got Poesie’s gray musk, which is amazing. Forest Cat has a variation of this called gray fur musk and it’s another one of my favourites. OYSTER! can smell like going on an ocean walk while sipping a cocktail. The animalic, salty musk stays there throughout. Amazing! Today, the amazing turns to me frantically scrubbing my wrist with rubbing alcohol. It started off promisingly. I didn’t bother with paper and tested it on my skin. OYSTER! is like wearing an ocean storm. It’s all salty, gray water. Dingy beaches strewn with washed up seaweed. Soft-bellied sea creatures sheltering in tidepools. That bitter wind is sharply resinous with a faint sweet hint under it all. It’s weird. Very different than the lake of my childhood, but I like it all the same.
Reddit: I'm from the Gulf South, and this smells like an oyster that someone plucked out of the water that morning-- if you've never had a truly fresh oyster, this may sound terrifying, but it's an amazing thing. It's not just an ocean scent-- I'm literally sitting at Acme Oyster House in Metairie and someone ordered a dozen raw oysters and they've just shown up at the table, salt water still soaked into to the shells. It's not fishy or meaty in any way, and if you don't know what you're smelling I suspect you'll read it as a non-sweet seaside scent and nothing more. I don't know how often I'm going to WEAR this, especially around people who know what's up and might ask WHY I smell like an oyster, but I plan to keep my sample for when I get homesick. It's unimaginably weird to me that someone managed to capture this smell. Rating: Seven shellfish out of ten.
Fragrantica: This is really nice I’ve been wearing it to bed! It’s calming, I picture a little seaside town. Very atmospheric! I think I get the lemon and cucumber most and a hint of the salty seawater.
Fragrantica: This is a refreshing aquatic. When it goes on, cucumber is the strongest note, and it's almost spa-like; but the cucumber quickly dissipates and leaves the musk, sea, and... I think on my skin the angelica really comes out, because there is a vibe to this that's slightly vintage. Like, "Mitsuko" kind of vintage, an old-school chypre.
Fragrantica: First impressions: my grandma, my mom and I all love this :) Definitely fresh like the sea, evocative of oysters, but not too briny- not a harsh scent. The lemon brings a little sweetness. Like a sunny dock.
Fragrantica: I adore this! It is everything the description says it is. Slightly sweet, slightly briny with the slightest tang of lemon. It lasts a good 6 hours on me, constantly getting little whiffs of something amazing.
