Description

This sampler gives you fragrances that are reminiscent of the scent of soaked earth/dampened soil. Soil is a thin covering over the Earth's surface. It is a mix of eroded rock, mineral nutrients, rotting organic matter, water, air and lots and lots of small living organisms. The top layer of soil called the Surface Litter Layer and the next layer down, the Topsoil Layer or Humus, are full of that great earthy scent. This is a very popular note in fragrances today. When the note is "dampened", the scent of the soil is heightened. Christopher Brosius of CB I Hate Perfume says: “Dirt is still a note I use in a lot of my work. I've always thought dirt resonates so strongly with everyone because at some point in everyone’s childhood everyone has played in the dirt.” Of course, Brosius points out, the dirt you grew up in might be very different from the dirt that I played in, so olfactory recollection varies enormously, which is why CB I Hate Perfumes makes close to half a dozen fragrances with strong dirt notes. “The smell itself is so archetypal,” he says. “So it's always recognized and loved.”

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.

  1. Moonlight Cove Finery The Autumn Ground Perfume Oil - Memories of summer long-forgotten. Blankets of fallen leaves, crushed and withered; their musty-sweet decay sinking into the soil, deep and dark, with the last of the dying drifting to the ground in hues of muted gold and burnt orange. Clumps of moss renew to creep over gnarled roots and stone, and mushrooms spring from the earth with the cool Autumn rain. With notes of damp and musty earth, dead and fallen leaves, dewy moss, woods, roots, mushroom and rain. An earthy, atmospheric scent.
  2. Ripe Shop Muddy Water Cologne - Mossy, salty smell of the ocean alongside muddy, freshly dug earth.
  3. Hexennacht Amanita Perfume Oil - Black loamy soil, mushroom caps and dirty dark patchouli.
  4. Apoteker Tepe After the Flood - The scent of soil, water, and the delicate stirrings of undergrowth in Spring. A contemporary aquatic, After the Flood is both earthy and clean, fresh with hints of loamy darkness. Violet leaf flickers in and out of a base of mushroom, soil and moss like green sunlight though thick branches. With notes of violet leaf, water lily, mushroom, patchouli and wet earth.
  5. White Owl Perfumery It Can't Rain All The Time Perfume Oil - Based on a Jane Siberry song, it is one of the perfumer's favorite tunes from one of the best movies of all time. The notes are comprised of wet earth and oakmoss representing the rainy day Eric came back from death at his grave. The scent is very herbal and clean and has notes reminiscent of hay. With notes of wet earth, oakmoss, hay, clary sage, cinnamon, clove, oak wood and sandalwood.
  6. Demeter Earthworm Cologne - A deeper, darker, richer version of Dirt, reflecting not the worm itself, but where it lives, deep in moist soil, on the floor of a forest covered with decomposing leaves.
  7. Solstice Scents Wilcox’s Potting Shed EDP - A warm, spicy and woody fragrance that has a bold earthen palette of damp potting soil, leaves strewn across a cold stone floor, mushroom covered logs and stacks of terracotta dotted with moss. A spicy aroma of fresh torn Genovese, Thai and Holy Basil leaves is evident along with a pervasive wood fragrance coming from the soil-stained wooden potting table and wood rafters that hold the old metal roof of the shed aloft. The fragrance is at once dank and fresh and cool and wet.
