Description

A desert is any large, extremely dry area of land with sparse vegetation. It is one of Earth's major types of ecosystems, supporting a community of distinctive plants and animals adapted to the harsh environment. One of the biggest variables in desert scents is the type of vegetation and, of course, the season. In the Spring, some deserts are alive with fragrance wildflowers. Even during very dry periods, the smell of creosote is strong in places where it grows. The daisy family is the most diverse plant family in deserts overall along with perennial grasses and trees and shrubs are found in some desert environments. A few large, common, conspicuous plants provide deserts with much of their regional character. In North America, the Sonoran Desert of northwestern Mexico and the adjacent areas of California and Arizona are dotted with large cacti, especially the tall saguaro, while to the north in the cooler Mojave Desert the characteristic Joshua Tree is found. The Creosote Bush is common in both areas. The spiny, spinifex grasses typify Australian deserts, while fleshy, cactus-like species of Euphorbia are located in parts of southern and eastern Africa.

Desert smells can range from dry and arid to moist and floral. In the Sonoran Desert when it rains, especially during the monsoons in the summer, there is the most gorgeous scent created by the Creosote Bush (Chaparral) that is absolutely intoxicating.

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.

  1. Strange Charm Design Chaparral Perfume Oil - Dense thickets of sweetgrass and sage, blooming cactus flower, and the warm, peppery scent of desert breezes carrying sweet copal, sandalwood and incense smoke.
  2. Alkemia Antares Perfume Extrait - A perfumed ode to the night sky of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts and Antares, a mesmerizingly beautiful orange star also known as the 'Eye of the Scorpion'. With notes of Queen of the Night, dried wild roses, mandarin, nicotania, oakmoss, cactus, juniper, acacia buds, fir resin, clary sage, cedar needles, labdanum, guaiac wood, germander and white patchouli lightly bathed in dewy water musk.
  3. Demeter Saguaro Cactus Cologne - Feel the heat from this fresh, lush, green scent from the deserts of the American Southwest and Mexico.
  4. Fantome Surem Perfume Oil - Warm, earthy, resinous. The realistic scent of the desert in spring. Honeysuckle, cedar, labdanum, myrrh, creosote bush, musk and tobacco evoke the rich and complex scent of the warm Sonoran sun. The Surem are a small, magical people who reside in the yo ania, an enchanted world that overlaps the everyday world of the Yaqui people in Mexico. According to myth, in the past the Yaquis and Surem were the same, but an event in their history split their numbers in half. The legend goes that a talking tree in the desert foretold the coming of the Spanish conquistadors and the unimaginable changes they would bring. Those not willing to face this future left, retreating to the yo ania, and those who stayed grew taller, eventually becoming the Yaqui people as they are today.
  5. Death and Floral Nothing Rusts in the Desert the Air is Full of Ghosts Perfume Oil - Pink cactus flowers and sweet grass, with notes of warm rain and woody dry vanilla.
  6. CocoaPink Desert Twilight Perfume - With notes of ghost flower, mitti attar, Peru balsam, Saguaro cactus water and black musk.
  7. Solstice Scents High Desert Perfume Oil - A dry, woody, herbal reverent blend designed to evoke the atmosphere of the hot unforgiving, yet majestic, desert habitat of the American southwest. It features dominant notes of herbal white sage and desert sagebrush with supporting background notes of soft woods, tobacco, hay, Saguaro cactus, juicy prickly pear cactus, baked sand and just a touch of smoke, labdanum and red musk. Despite the complex palette used to create High Desert, these notes were selected to enhance and compliment the beautiful sage blend. On cold sniff you will experience a dried sage leaf with a sweet fruity prickly pear top note and dry hay and tobacco finish. On initial application the crisp green Saguaro cactus emerges amidst an endless open blue sky. High Desert features a blend of synthetic aromas along with the following essential oils, absolutes and CO2s: white sagebrush, muhuhu, nagarmotha, white sage, sandalwood, cacti, tobacco, hay, smoke, labdanum, copal bark, sweet clover, sugandha and mitti attar. The white sage used in this blend is sustainable and ethically sourced.
  8. Potion Street Perfumes Space Cowboy Perfume Oil - This rugged and masculine scent is like a ride through the desert on a motorcycle, the smell of leather and dust blending with the woody and earthy aroma of patchouli, evoking the feeling of a cowboy on the open road. Clean and invigorating citrus notes of bergamot and grapefruit, open up to the floral notes of violet, grounded by the deeply sensual scents of oakmoss and sandalwood. An earthy signature of patchouli and spiced wood, reminiscent of the desert, leads to a base of warm animal tones, leather and musk, balanced with balsamic undertones and hint of powdery vanilla that complete the blend, making this scent a powerful and captivating fragrance experience, perfect for the adventurous and free-spirited.
  9. The Little Book Eater Desert Solitaire Perfume Oil - Inspired by the 1968 autobiographical classic, Desert Solitaire: A Season in the Wilderness, by author and environmental activist Edward Abbey. A fresh, green and herbal fragrance that is the  perfect combination for getting back to nature and protecting the planet. A blend of cactus nectar, aloe, sweetgrass, cedar, oakmoss and musk.
