Young Pretender is an oriental vanilla fragrance that launched in 2026. It was created by Euan McCall and is part of the London collection, launched to celebrate the opening of the second Jorum Boutique in London. The collection was temporarily available worldwide at launch, but is now available exclusively in the London boutique. It takes thematic inspiration from Bonnie Prince Charlie and the romanticized, baronial aesthetic associated with historical Scottish portraiture. The composition contrasts a soft, wool-like muskiness and umber tonalities with brighter, more piquant nuances. It features impression notes of heather, saffron, rose and honey with fade notes of ambrette seed, beeswax, ambergris, tonka bean and vanilla, creating a warm, resinous and lightly animalic base that evolves toward a sweet, balsamic finish. Fragrantica: “I smelled this today in the Edinburgh store & brought a tester strip home with me. This is my second favorite of the new London collection & I'm buying it tonight along with Tessarae, which was my favorite. To my nose the heather is really prominant here - a beautiful honeyed musky heather. The musky notes (the Ambrette?) really develop in the drydown & it's so fluffy and cozy, yet fresh and salty at the same time. Very unique scent to my nose, I've not smelt anything like this.”
