Ralph Lauren is one of the most well-known brands in fashion. Ralph Lauren was born in the Bronx, New York City in 1939. Lauren grew up in a working-class family observing the the wealthy American lifestlye that inspired him when he worked summers. He ventured into the department store world when he was almost 12 where he would work and save money to buy expensive clothes. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964, Lauren began selling ties for Brooks Brothers and attending business night classes in NYC.

Founded in 1967 and initially offering a line of men's ties, the company grew quickly and had its own boutique within Bloomingdale's by 1969. Ralph Lauren had his own stand-alone store in Beverly Hills by 1971. Also in 1971, Polo's first womenswear line was launched. 

Ralph Lauren has a men's and women's line, a children's and baby's line, he has expanded his brand into the home furnishings, paint, underwear, swimwear, shoes, belts, leather goods and sportswear. With presence in 80 countries, Ralph Lauren continues to hold position as Chairman and CEO. His most recent acheivement was designing the 2012 United States Olympic team uniforms for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.

In 1978 Lauren added fragrances to his line.  He partnered with L’Oreal and introduced Polo for Men and Lauren for Women that year.  In 1979 Chaps for Men and Tuxedo for Women were added.  Since then many different flankers of Polo have been released.

In 1990 the popular Safari for Women was introduced followed two years later by Safari for Men.  In 2010 he released four scents for men under the Big Pony line followed two years later by four Big Pony scents for women.
