A perfume house with over 190 years of history, which has crafted perfumes for French and British royalty.

That’s the legacy of Guerlain, one of the world’s oldest perfume houses and until 1994, was a family business with the role of master perfumer passed on from generation to generation.

In 1994, Guerlain was acquired by the powerhouse LVHM, which although modernizing its perfume collection, still retains its classic fragrances.

Classic Guerlain Perfumes

Some of Guerlain’s fragrances have a special page on the perfume history books. Learn more about them below:

Eau de cologne impériale (1853)

This fragrance composed of lime and flowery notes was a gift to Empress Eugénie, wife of former French emperor Napoleon III.

Her Majesty enjoyed the fragrance so much that she appointed Guerlain as the official supplier of colognes to the French imperial family.

And you can still get this classic fragrance today for just $2.99!

Jicky (1889)

Considered one of the first “modern” perfumes of history since it pioneered the use of synthetic odorants, such as vanillin and coumarin.

The name for this perfume to this day is a mystery: some say it’s the nickname of Jacques Guerlain, others say it’s named after an English girl that broke Aimé Guerlain’s heart while he studied in the UK.

Even so, what isn’t a mystery is the unique aroma of Jicky: notes of lavender and vanilla, with a touch of civet. Musk, amber, and rose also bring body to this fragrance.
