Parfums de Nicolai perfume shop has a vast array of niche perfumes. Located in Paris, it is the creation of Patricia de Nicolai. One of the descendants of the Guerlain Perfume family, it is rumored that she could not be their head perfumer because women could not hold that position. Once she graduated from the ISIPCA, instead of going into the family business, she worked for other perfume companies, working on Lancome Tresor, then finally launching her own brand in 1989.
Parfums de Nicolai launched their first perfume, Number One, and Patricia de Nicolai was given the International Prize for Young Perfumers for that fragrance.
Since then, she has gone on to create an amazing range of perfumes - from the 5-star Masterpiece for men, Parfums de Nicolai New York (Perfumes: The Guide), to the also 5-star masterpiece La Temps d'Une Fete (galbanum, opoponax, tree moss, daffodil, narcissus, sandalwood, patchouli, and oak moss) to Parfums de Nicolai Odalisque (lily of the valley and tuberose).
Hailed by many in the perfume community as an underrated perfume genius, Luca Turin had this to say about Patricia de Nicolai's skills "...one of the unsung greats of the fragrance world." Victoria at Bois de Jasmin says "Among the ever growing niche area of the fragrance market, I would not hesitate to name Parfums de Nicolaï as one of the best."
Parfums de Nicolai creates unusual niche perfumes with odd note combinations that not only work, but change how you think about a particular classification of perfume forever. She continues to create a new fragrance as the inspiration strikes her, as well as creating perfumes for other lines - Parfums MDCI Un Coeur en Mai.
She took over as director of the Osmothèque fragrance museum in Versailles from Jean Kerleo in 2008 and continues in that position today.
